Week 2 EOC : Boston Consulting Group - Video Games

The video game industry is an extremely large one. Technology keeps evolving and now we have plenty of consoles and ways to game to choose from. With the amount of devices out there , you would assume that there's quite a bit of competition. The biggest we see, is with Sony and Microsoft. They are the two most popular consoles being purchased by gamers.
"The PS4 remains as one of the best gaming consoles you can own for 2016 and beyond..The Xbox One is the best it's ever been and has finally hit its stride."(http://www.cnet.com/topics/consoles/best-video-game-consoles/)
People camp out just to be one of the first people to get the newest version. In order to stay on top, Microsoft and Sony have to reinvent themselves constantly. The consumer wants to buy the console that is the mast updated to whats trending in technology. For example, Nintendo, another game company that's right under Sony and Microsoft, was the first to create a motion sensed controller. The controller was for the Nintendo Wii, which at the time was a way of gaming that nobody has ever seen. Other companies tried to compete by making their controllers more sensitive to body movements so there's less button pushing.
"New controllers promise to enable more intuitive game playing based on natural body movements, rather than on button pushing." ( http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/login.jsp?tp=&arnumber=5197417&url=http%3A%2F%2Fieeexplore.ieee.org%2Fxpls%2Fabs_all.jsp%3Farnumber%3D5197417)
Another example of quick adapting by game companies is the Xbox Kinect. The Xbox Kinect was a device that was attached to the Xbox and allowed the user to control the console with only hand and body movements. You were also able to speak to your console and give it commands without having to use your controller. I believe that as the years go by, the technology for video games will become much more vast and complex. I believe if these video game companies continue to reinvent their consoles based on the advancing technology, they will continue to make a huge profit.
