Week 3 EOC: Making Money for Good

Fashion Project is a e-commerce site based out of Boston. It was founded by Anna Palmer and Christine Rizk. Members of the fashion project donate their designer clothing and accessories to a charity of choice.  Fashion Project then takes pictures of the pieces and resell them with 55% of the proceedings go to a good cause. selling one dress buys 300 meals for families in need the greater Boston food bank. A pair of shoes provides two microfinace loans to women entrepreneurs in Uganda.  The main goals in mind are to re-introduce the value into clothes that are given to charity; and to provide people the ability to donate to any charity.

" We had this eye opening moment, we were in this local thrift store and saw a prada jacket mixed in with these other pieces of clothing. We realized that that jacket was going to be sold for $5, or we can take it and put it online and raise so much more money for charity" (http://stylecaster.com/fashion-project/)

This website is a site where you can do multiple things at one time. You can donate your clothing and accessories for charity and you can shop other people’s donations.  The creators wanted to change the way people thought about donating.  There is an in house staff that determines whether or not the product has a high enough quality to put for sale on the site.
“ We have other buyers off-site, consignment that we know will be a better fit for some pieces. We filter things to make sure we’re putting them into the channel on which they will sell for the most money. If for some reason we cant sell something, we donate it to one of our thrift store partners, so it’s always going back to charity one way or another” (http://stylecaster.com/fashion-project/)
